Marriott International has confirmed global corporate job cuts while excluding hotel-level staff from the initiative, according to a company statement reported by Skift on 28 October.

The group has not disclosed the number of roles affected. It said changes would apply to “some corporate disciplines” as part of its budget and planning process, with new positions also being advertised.

Marriott corporate job cuts exclude hotel staff

The distinction between corporate employment and property-level staffing is central to the announcement. This is a change to parts of Marriott’s corporate organisation, rather than an announced reduction in the teams operating its hotels.

Skift reported that Marriott expects affected associates to apply for, and potentially be selected for, newly available roles. The statement does not provide a complete department-by-department breakdown or a total number of departures.

For hospitality HR leaders, the immediate management issue is how internal applications, role changes and departures are communicated. Vacancies can provide another route within an organisation, but the existence of advertised positions is not the same as a confirmed placement for an individual employee.

Earnings update scheduled for 2 November

The confirmation comes shortly before Marriott’s next financial reporting date. In an announcement issued on 9 October, the company scheduled its third-quarter 2026 earnings release for 2 November at approximately 7am Eastern Time, followed by an investor call at 8am.

Chief executive Anthony Capuano and chief financial officer Jennifer Mason are scheduled to discuss performance. Marriott has said the call will be webcast through its investor relations website, with a replay and transcript subsequently available.

That is the next scheduled corporate reporting milestone. The earnings-date announcement does not specify whether management will provide additional detail about the workforce changes.

Restructuring alongside a growing hotel system

Marriott’s most recent published quarterly results provide the operating context. In the second quarter, worldwide revenue per available room rose 3.4% year on year on a comparable, constant-currency basis. Growth was 5% in the US and Canada, while international RevPAR declined 0.5%.

The company added roughly 17,900 net rooms during that quarter. At 30 June, its system comprised more than 10,000 properties and nearly 1.814 million rooms. Its development pipeline stood at approximately 629,000 rooms.

Clarity matters through the transition

For leaders managing organisational change, clear reporting lines and realistic information about redeployment matter as much as the announcement itself. Employees need to know how roles are changing and how any internal selection process works. Hotel owners and operating teams also need dependable points of contact as corporate responsibilities move.

Marriott’s stated exclusion of hotel-level staff defines the present scope. Further conclusions about the scale of the corporate restructuring will depend on additional confirmed information.
