The Cape Town EDITION has opened at the V&A Waterfront, bringing Marriott International’s luxury lifestyle brand to Africa for the first time. The 142-room-and-suite hotel began welcoming guests on 27 October 2026, adding a new international flag to Cape Town’s working harbour.

For the hospitality market, the opening combines accommodation with a substantial dining and social programme. Its position at Quay 7 places the property beside the superyacht marina, with views towards Table Mountain and the Atlantic, rather than in a standalone resort setting.

The Cape Town EDITION connects design with place

Neri&Hu developed the hotel’s design with local partners, drawing on the warehouse buildings and maritime character of the site. Hand-laid brickwork, pitched roof forms and tactile materials give the property a visual connection to its surroundings.

The Drum, a cylindrical space open to the sky, provides a distinctive arrival point. A staircase leads to an outdoor viewing platform, introducing a public-facing element alongside the hotel’s guest facilities. Accommodation includes a 240-square-metre penthouse and a 112-square-metre Harbour Suite.

Five venues extend the commercial offer

The hotel’s food and beverage line-up spans Shale, EAVE Bar & Lounge, the Pool Terrace, Lobby Bar and Punch Room. Marriott’s property information presents them as different parts of the day’s activity, from coffee meetings and informal meals to rooftop drinks and later-evening gatherings.

Shale focuses on coastal and Cape Winelands flavours, working with local producers and fisheries. The Lobby Bar serves lighter food and drinks in a shared social space, while Punch Room offers a more intimate cocktail setting. EAVE combines terrace views with small plates, drinks and entertainment beside the pool.

A spa, fitness centre and meeting facilities broaden the offer beyond guestrooms. The range gives the operating team several routes to engage both hotel residents and visitors.

Part of a wider waterfront development

V&A Waterfront identifies the hotel and superyacht marina among the components of the first phase of Granger Bay, alongside residential development. That places EDITION within a wider waterfront neighbourhood plan rather than an isolated addition to room supply.

The district’s longer-term vision remains subject to regulatory approvals, according to the Waterfront. The hotel’s opening should therefore be distinguished from the completion of the wider development programme.

For Marriott, the new address extends EDITION’s geographical reach while retaining the brand’s emphasis on design and public spaces. Other hotel development coverage from WINC Wire includes Marriott’s three-hotel New Zealand agreement and Delano’s forthcoming London debut.

The operational test in Cape Town will be how consistently the property turns its harbour setting, dining venues and meeting spaces into business alongside room demand.
