JW Marriott Fiji Resort & Spa is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027 following an agreement between Marriott International and Dubbo Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the Fiji National Provident Fund. The 282-key project will convert the former Westin Fiji Golf Resort & Spa on Denarau Island.

Reservations are anticipated to open in December 2026. The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association published details of the agreement on 30 October.

JW Marriott Fiji builds on an existing resort

The development is a repositioning of an established tourism asset. Marriott is bringing the JW Marriott identity to the property through a conversion agreement, while the ownership connection remains with FNPF through Dubbo.

Reporting by Latte Luxury News says the former Westin closed in January 2023 for a multi-year renovation. The forthcoming change combines refurbishment with a move into Marriott’s luxury portfolio.

The brand’s arrival is expected to be its first in the Pacific Islands. Marriott’s Asia Pacific excluding China president, Rajeev Menon, has linked the choice of Fiji to the destination’s resort appeal and JW Marriott’s emphasis on wellbeing and experiences grounded in place.

Accommodation and guest facilities

Plans encompass guestrooms, suites and two-bedroom villas with private pools. Family and adults-only pools are included, alongside a kids club and a separate teen zone. The range is intended to support more than one leisure segment within the same resort.

The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association’s announcement gives additional detail on the room mix: 72 rooms and suites are designated adults-only, including 28 with private plunge pools.

Dining is also being developed as a collection of distinct experiences. Proposals include all-day dining, a Japanese-influenced restaurant, a wine and cocktail lounge, JW Market and a dining experience drawing on Fijian culture. The plans combine international brand concepts with local ingredients and traditions.

Meetings alongside the leisure business

TravelTalk reports that the resort will have a 309-square-metre ballroom, a 490-square-metre pre-function foyer and five meeting rooms. The ballroom is planned to accommodate up to 180 banquet guests.

That event space gives the property a business beyond individual leisure stays, including group travel and celebrations.

The combination of pools, family facilities, premium accommodation and event venues creates a broad operational brief for the reopening team. It requires the service offer to work across different guest needs while maintaining a clear luxury positioning.

FNPF links investment to long-term value

FNPF has presented the redevelopment both as a commercial investment and as a contributor to the wider economy. Its chief executive, Viliame Vodonaivalu, has emphasised long-term value for fund members and the role of tourism in supporting employment and visitor spending.

Fijivillage’s 30 October report says the fund expects opportunities in local procurement, business partnerships and employment. The announcement did not specify a development budget or recruitment timetable.

The next practical milestones are the proposed December reservation launch and confirmation of an opening date within the first quarter of 2027. For now, the agreement establishes the direction of the conversion, with the resort’s operating debut still to follow.
