Karim von Alvensleben has joined Resorts World Sentosa as vice president, hotel projects, bringing a background in luxury operations and hotel openings to the Singapore integrated resort. La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie reported the move on 3 October 2026, with his start dated to September.

The move follows his general management assignment with Minor Hotels at Avani+ Lanexang Vientiane. It shifts his focus from preparing an individual property for opening to a hotel projects position within a destination containing accommodation, visitor attractions, dining and events.

The appointment adds an executive with experience of bringing luxury properties into operation. The precise projects assigned to him, his reporting line and individual completion targets have not been detailed in the sources reviewed.

That distinction matters at an integrated resort, where a senior project title should not automatically be interpreted as responsibility for every development or attraction. His confirmed role is within hotel projects.

A career shaped by openings and luxury operations

Minor Hotels’ official January 2026 appointment announcement described von Alvensleben as an Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne graduate with four major hotel openings and senior experience at Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, Wynn, Regent, One&Only and Six Senses.

At Avani+ Lanexang Vientiane, his remit covered preparation for opening, brand activation, talent development and operating standards for the 197-room hotel. These were responsibilities outlined for that earlier role, rather than a published job description for Resorts World Sentosa.

The same biography identifies him as Swiss and Brazilian, with international experience and fluency in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie’s account of his career also includes leadership at Londoner Court in Macao and rooms operations at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong. Together, those assignments span large integrated destinations and luxury hotel service.

A varied destination on Sentosa

Resorts World Sentosa’s official company overview describes a 49-hectare destination with six luxury hotels, alongside Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark, Singapore Oceanarium, retail, restaurants and a convention centre.

The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort, officially opened on 1 October 2025 with 183 suites. Developed in collaboration with Marriott International, it introduced The Luxury Collection to Singapore and forms part of the resort’s accommodation offer.

That opening predates von Alvensleben’s reported arrival. It provides context for the resort’s hotel positioning, but should not be attributed to his new appointment.

Preparing the operation behind the project

Hotel project leadership connects development decisions with the practical work of operating a property. Recruitment, training, service procedures and coordination between departments must be ready alongside the physical building.

Von Alvensleben’s previous assignments make that preparation the relevant aspect of his appointment for hospitality leaders. Opening experience is valuable when it helps teams identify operational requirements early, rather than resolving them only as guests arrive.

The next point to watch is which hotel initiatives Resorts World Sentosa formally assigns to his team. Until those details are announced, the appointment signals additional leadership capacity without establishing a new opening timetable.
