Former Commonwealth Bank and Qantas marketing executive Jo Boundy will take charge of Journey Beyond’s growing accommodation portfolio as Managing Director, Resorts & Lodges.

Journey Beyond has appointed Jo Boundy as Managing Director, Resorts & Lodges, placing the former Commonwealth Bank chief marketing officer at the head of an increasingly significant part of the Australian experiential tourism group.

Boundy will oversee Journey Beyond’s expanded Resorts & Lodges division, which brings together a collection of resort, lodge and accommodation assets across some of Australia’s best-known tourism destinations.

The portfolio includes Ayers Rock Resort, Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, Monarto Safari Resort, Outback Spirit Lodges and Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, alongside the incoming Kingfisher Bay Resort and K’gari Beach Resort on K’gari.

Her appointment adds considerable consumer, commercial and brand experience to the division. Boundy most recently served as chief marketing officer at Commonwealth Bank. Before moving into financial services, she held senior roles at Qantas, including chief marketing officer of the Qantas Group and executive general manager of Qantas Group Hotels & Holidays.

For Journey Beyond, the appointment comes as its business increasingly extends beyond the rail journeys for which the company has traditionally been best known.

The group now operates across rail expeditions, touring, cruises, camps and lodges, and attractions, with 22 brands across Australia and New Zealand. Its portfolio includes The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern, alongside accommodation, touring and destination experiences.

Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent said Boundy would join the company at an important stage in the development of the Resorts & Lodges business.

He pointed to her experience in customer strategy, commercial growth and organisational leadership as particularly relevant as the company looks to strengthen the portfolio, build demand across its destinations and improve both guest and employee experiences.

From marketing leadership to destination management

Boundy’s move is notable because the role extends well beyond traditional marketing.

As Journey Beyond continues assembling destination-led accommodation businesses, the Resorts & Lodges division requires oversight of brands operating in very different markets, from remote luxury stays such as Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef to large-scale resort destinations and safari-led hospitality experiences.

That puts brand positioning, distribution, guest experience and commercial performance increasingly under the same strategic umbrella.

Boundy said Journey Beyond had built a collection of tourism businesses showcasing distinctive Australian destinations and that she looked forward to working with the team to strengthen the properties and build demand for them.

Her hospitality background at Qantas Hotels & Holidays also gives the appointment a direct connection to accommodation and travel distribution, complementing her more recent experience leading major consumer brands.

Boundy will be based in Sydney and is scheduled to commence the role on 9 November 2026.
