Yas World Resort has joined IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Vignette Collection, bringing the former Yas Plaza Hotels complex on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island into a single resort identity. The Aldar-developed destination combines six hotels and more than 1,400 rooms and suites, making it the collection’s largest property, according to IHG.

Abu Dhabi, 2 November 2026: IHG’s announcement confirms the resort’s addition to the brand, following the partners’ earlier agreement to reposition the existing hotels.

Six identities within Yas World Resort

The hotels retain individual themes drawn from the island and different types of stay:

  • Verde: inspired by the surrounding mangroves.
  • Vista: connected to the bay.
  • Pulse: centred on motorsport and the circuit.
  • Horizon: drawing on the marina.
  • Fairway: reflecting the golf landscape.
  • Haven: designed around longer stays.

Aldar Hospitality chief executive Kapil Aggarwal described the project as “an important milestone in Aldar’s hospitality transformation”.

The resort’s own website positions the collection for both short breaks and extended visits. Family accommodation, shared leisure facilities and access to Yas Island’s attractions sit alongside a programme of meetings, weddings and outdoor events.

Shared facilities broaden the proposition

The advertised resort portfolio includes 21 restaurants and bars. Its range spans Indian, Mexican, European, Belgian, Italian and Japanese dining, alongside cafés and pool bars. Cyan Beach provides a private shoreline setting, extending the offer beyond the hotels themselves.

Verde’s official hotel page lists access across the resort to six swimming pools, three fitness centres, three spas, sports courts and three children’s clubs. It also confirms 348 rooms and suites at Verde, with its own spa and gym. The hotel’s meeting facilities include the 435 sq m Galaxy Ballroom, giving the broader destination a business and events component as well as a leisure focus.

Haven’s accommodation adds a different product: apartment-style suites with full kitchens and separate living space. Its description is aimed at guests travelling with families, working remotely or staying longer on the island. Haven does not host meetings itself; its official page directs that demand to nearby Fairway, Verde and Horizon within the same resort.

That variety is commercially relevant. A connected resort can offer different accommodation formats to a group without requiring every guest to book the same room type or stay for the same duration. Delivering that flexibility still depends on clear information about which services are shared and where they are located.

A conversion with a longer development history

The project was first outlined in IHG’s September 2024 agreement with Aldar. That announcement described a franchise arrangement to refurbish and convert six adjoining hotels, using the proposed name Straylight Yas. It referred to 1,389 keys and anticipated an opening in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The latest announcement uses Yas World Resort and a total of more than 1,400 rooms and suites. Those are the current identifiers for the destination. The earlier plan is useful background to the conversion, rather than a specification that should be carried forward unchanged.

Private beach access was already a central element of the 2024 proposal. The partners also described a single-operator model intended to consolidate the complex into an integrated destination. The commercial change therefore extends beyond adding a collection brand to six separate hotel names.

Aldar placed Yas Plaza within a wider AED 1.5 billion hospitality transformation programme announced in September 2024. The portfolio investment also covered other Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah properties. It should not be read as the budget for Yas World Resort alone.

Collection growth and the operating challenge

Vignette Collection’s development proposition allows hotel owners to retain a property’s name, design and individual character while gaining access to IHG’s systems, loyalty programme and scale. Launched in 2021, the brand is intended to accommodate distinct hotel experiences rather than impose a single visual identity.

IHG’s current brand figures show 46 open Vignette Collection hotels, comprising 10,478 rooms, and 42 pipeline properties at 30 September 2026. These are dated portfolio figures, not a revised total following the November Yas announcement.

For hotel teams, the model creates a practical balance: preserving the identity of each building while making shared facilities easy to understand and use. Front-office communication, restaurant information and consistent guidance about resort access will matter to whether guests experience one connected destination.

Further work remains

IHG says additional dining, wellness and sports improvements are planned. The resort’s website also marks several dining venues, including Rangoli, Belgian Café and Filini Garden, as under refurbishment. The advertised 21-venue portfolio should therefore not be taken to mean that every outlet is currently trading.

The confirmed milestone is the resort’s arrival in Vignette Collection. For guests and event buyers, the next practical check is the availability of particular facilities for their intended dates as the wider transformation continues.
