Pieter Ham has taken charge of Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, Johannesburg, as general manager, the company announced on 14 October 2026.

His experience spans more than two decades, with previous roles at QO Amsterdam, The Woodward in Geneva and The Upper House in Hong Kong. He also served as general manager of EAST Beijing.

Four Seasons says Ham wants closer links with Johannesburg’s business and creative communities, alongside a consistent welcome for overnight guests and local visitors. The announcement gives no separate effective date.

Pieter Ham’s multi-department leadership brief

The hotel’s operating profile helps explain that emphasis. Its official factsheet lists 80 rooms and suites across a hillside setting, with landscaped gardens and courtyards. Alongside accommodation, the property has an 11-treatment-room spa and indoor and outdoor meeting space totalling 1,457 square metres. Flames combines 60 indoor seats with another 120 outside. The hotel opened under Four Seasons in December 2014. Hotel factsheet.

For hotel operators, this is a leadership brief that reaches well beyond the rooms division. Dining, treatments and events create several reasons for residents to visit, while each department contributes to how staying guests experience the property. The practical challenge is coordination: bookings, service handovers and the recognition of returning customers need to work across outlets. Seen through that operating lens, leadership experience across different markets and departments is relevant to the demands of a property serving several audiences at once. The appointment release sets out no financial targets or new capital programme.
