Michelle Walder has joined Iconic Hotels & Resorts as Group Director of Operations, with responsibility for operational performance across the collection’s UK portfolio.

The appointment adds a senior operator with more than 28 years of luxury and lifestyle hospitality experience to the group’s leadership team. In its announcement, Iconic said Walder would work closely with hotel teams to support the guest experience, service standards and future growth.

Michelle Walder brings international operating experience

Walder’s career includes senior roles with Hyatt, Standard Hotels, Sydell Group and André Balazs Properties. Her experience spans Europe and North America, including the opening and operation of hotels associated with The Standard, The NoMad and The Ned.

Most recently, she was Hyatt’s Head of Operations, Lifestyle Group EAME. That role involved overseeing operating performance and supporting the European expansion of Standard Hotels, Thompson and Andaz, according to the appointment coverage shared by Iconic.

Walder will report to Chief Operating Officer Shan Kanagasingham. The hire follows the addition of Yasmin Boromand as Group Director of People & Culture, as Iconic continues to build its central leadership team.

A UK remit within an international collection

Iconic’s own announcement places the focus of Michelle Walder’s new role on its UK hotels. The wider collection includes country-house properties, London townhouses and coastal resorts, with brands and locations that call for different operating approaches.

Its UK luxury hotels include Cliveden House, Chewton Glen, The Lygon Arms, The Mayfair Townhouse, 11 Cadogan Gardens, The Chelsea Townhouse and Nobu Hotel London Portman Square. Outside the UK, the collection includes Palm House in Florida, Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort and Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club.

Building the operating platform

The appointment comes during a year of change for the business. In February 2026, parent company London and Regional introduced the L+R brand and brought Iconic Luxury Hotels and L&R Hotels together as Iconic Hotels & Resorts.

At the launch, L+R described Iconic as its integrated hotel operating platform, supporting acquisitions and the management of its owned hotels. It also announced a central London headquarters bringing together commercial, operations, food and beverage, IT and HR specialists, alongside an in-house design studio and project management team.

For Walder, the immediate brief is to work with the UK hotel teams as that operating structure develops. Iconic linked her arrival to continued investment in its people and systems, with service delivery and operating performance central to the next stage of the group’s growth.
