IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement for the 250-key Crowne Plaza New Cairo, adding to its development pipeline in Egypt.

Announced on 12 October, the property is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2031 in the Sixth Settlement district. IHG’s partner is Kleek Development, a joint venture between Emaar Al Delta for Contracting and Real Estate Investment and Modern Style Home Real Estate Company.

Business travel and events demand

Plans include guestrooms and suites, four dining venues and six meetings and events spaces, including a ballroom. Leisure facilities will comprise a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa, alongside retail space.

The project targets East Cairo’s growing business, commercial and residential communities. Planned Plaza Workspace areas and WorkLife Rooms will accommodate working, socialising and relaxation.

IHG currently operates 10 hotels in Egypt and has 28 in development.

Crowne Plaza New Cairo adds eastern coverage

Crowne Plaza already has a presence on the opposite side of the capital. The brand entered Egypt in February 2022 with Crowne Plaza West Cairo-Arkan in Sheikh Zayed. The New Cairo agreement extends its development ambitions towards the eastern side of the city.

Globally, Crowne Plaza had 433 operating hotels with 115,179 rooms at 30 June 2026, alongside a pipeline of 151 hotels. IHG positions the brand across urban centres, gateway cities and resort destinations.

Its owner proposition centres on full-service hotels with meetings, events and food-and-beverage operations, supported by IHG’s distribution systems, loyalty programme and procurement capabilities. That positioning provides context for the combination of accommodation, meeting venues and dining planned for New Cairo.

For hotel operators, the project points to a business mix extending beyond overnight stays into corporate meetings and local events. The scheduled 2031 opening makes this a development story rather than an imminent addition to Egypt’s operating hotel supply.
