Six Senses London Brings Wellness-Led Hospitality to £1.5 Billion Whiteley Redevelopment

Updated 15 October 2026: Six Senses London is open. IHG announced the UK debut on 5 March 2026. This article was first published before the opening. We have also corrected the wellness tourism market figure and removed figures that we could not substantiate.

Six Senses London has opened at The Whiteley in Bayswater, bringing the brand’s first UK hotel, 109 rooms and suites, and 14 branded residences to the restored department-store development.

The opening brings Six Senses’ wellness-led hospitality model to London. The brand’s opening announcement describes the hotel, residences and Six Senses Place members’ club as complementary parts of the property.

A landmark heritage conversion

Six Senses London occupies a substantial portion of The Whiteley, the Grade II-listed former department store in Bayswater that has undergone an eight-year transformation under the architectural direction of Foster + Partners. Originally completed in 1911, the building was once among London’s most prestigious retail destinations before decades of decline culminated in its closure in 2018.

The hotel component, designed by New York-based studio AvroKO in collaboration with EPR Architects, integrates contemporary wellness facilities within the restored heritage structure. Beyond the 109 guest rooms and suites, the property includes 14 Six Senses branded residences with membership access to the hotel’s extensive wellness facilities.

First Six Senses Place debuts in London

The London property introduces Six Senses Place, the brand’s first private social wellness club – a concept designed to extend the Six Senses experience beyond overnight guests. Membership is by application only, reflecting what the brand describes as an ethos of purposeful engagement and shared values.

The club model represents Six Senses’ attempt to build recurring revenue streams and deeper community connections within urban markets. For the hospitality workforce, it creates ongoing programming and relationship management roles that differ substantially from traditional hotel operations.

According to Six Senses, the 2,300-square-metre spa includes a magnesium pool, a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, cryotherapy and flotation facilities. The brand describes the magnesium pool as London’s first in a hotel.

Leadership team reflects wellness specialisation

Nick Yarnell leads the property as General Manager. The opening announcement also identifies Charlotte Pulver as Head Alchemist, leading the Alchemy Bar’s work with seasonal botanicals.

Urban expansion amid competitive luxury market

The London luxury hotel pipeline also includes Auberge Collection’s Cambridge House, planned for February 2027. These projects have different opening schedules.

The Global Wellness Institute estimates that wellness tourism expenditure reached $894 billion in 2024. Wellness tourism is one part of the wider wellness economy.

Reservations for Six Senses London are now open. Membership enquiries for Six Senses Place can be submitted through the dedicated club website.
