The Wall Street Hotel has appointed Kelly Egan Merryfield as director of marketing, communications and partnerships. In her new role, she will oversee the 180-room boutique property’s brand positioning, integrated marketing strategy and partnership development, with a focus on expanding visibility across luxury travel markets.

Merryfield brings more than two decades of hospitality sales and marketing experience, predominantly within New York City’s luxury hotel sector. Most recently, she served as director of sales and marketing at Pendry Hotels & Resorts, where she oversaw commercial operations for both Pendry Manhattan West and Pendry Natirar in New Jersey.

A career shaped by New York’s iconic properties

Merryfield’s career trajectory reads as a tour through some of Manhattan’s most prestigious addresses. She spent a decade at The Peninsula New York, rising to director of sales, before moving to The New York Palace as director of entertainment sales. A subsequent stint at Salamander Hotels & Resorts in Virginia’s horse country preceded her 2016 appointment as director of sales and marketing at Trump International Hotel & Tower New York – a return to a property where she had previously held a similar role from 2007 to 2008.

Her time at Park Lane Hotel New York, the reimagined luxury property overlooking Central Park, further broadened her expertise in repositioning hotels following major renovations.

“Kelly joins The Wall Street Hotel at a moment when culture, community and creativity are central to our story,” said Prince A. Sanders, general manager of The Wall Street Hotel.

A historic setting in Lower Manhattan

The Wall Street Hotel occupies the landmark Tontine Building at 88 Wall Street, a site steeped in financial history. The original Tontine Coffee House on this location served as the first venue for the New York Stock Exchange in the late 18th century. The current 13-storey Beaux-Arts structure dates to 1901 and housed one of New York’s largest pearl import businesses for decades before its transformation into a hotel.

The property opened in 2022 under ownership of the Paspaley family, the Australian pearling dynasty. Nods to that heritage appear throughout the hotel, from rare pearl jewellery displayed in the lobby to oyster-inspired watercolours in guest rooms. The property was voted the number one hotel in New York City by Travel + Leisure in 2023.

Amenities include more than 6,500 square feet of meeting space, a 2,100-square-foot rooftop ballroom, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser’s restaurant La Marchande and the all-day Lounge on Pearl.

Strategic focus on independent luxury

Merryfield’s appointment signals The Wall Street Hotel’s ambition to strengthen its position as an independently owned luxury property in a market dominated by global brands. Her mandate includes cultivating partnerships with luxury travel influencers, high-end brands and key industry players.

The role represents a shift from her previous positions at branded properties, offering scope for bolder creative decisions and distinctive programming unconstrained by corporate frameworks.
