Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort targets 2031
Hyatt and PT Citra Buana Prakarsa have signed a management agreement for a 140-room resort in Indonesia’s Riau Islands.

Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort is planned to open in 2031 under a management agreement between Hyatt and Indonesian developer PT Citra Buana Prakarsa.
Chicago, 4 November 2026: Hyatt announced the 140-room and suite project on private Pulau Kapal Besar, near Batam. It would introduce the Regency brand to the Riau Islands.
Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar plans family and leisure facilities
The proposed resort includes a spa, fitness centre, outdoor pools and a Camp Hyatt children’s club. The developer also plans projects on neighbouring Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil as part of a wider island portfolio.
Access is expected through the immigration checkpoint on Nirup Island, followed by a ferry transfer. Hyatt estimates a total journey of about 50 minutes from Singapore’s HarbourFront.
What the partners said
Bastien Touzeau, Hyatt’s regional vice president of growth for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, described the island’s “natural setting and convenient access from Singapore” as part of the project’s appeal.
The guest journey starts before check-in
For an island resort, transport is part of the service experience rather than a detail that sits outside the hotel. Connection information, immigration requirements, baggage arrangements and communication around disrupted transfers can shape a guest’s first impression before arrival.
The announced journey time should therefore be read as a planning estimate, not a guaranteed transfer schedule. Operators and travel partners will need confirmed practical arrangements as the opening approaches. These are delivery considerations, not services or operating policies already promised by the development partners.
Family facilities also create a distinct operational brief. A children’s club, pools and wellness areas require different skills, supervision and service routines. Recruiting for those needs is more specific than filling a general room-count staffing plan. The announcement does not disclose recruitment numbers, so no employment estimate can yet be attached to the project.
A development commitment with a longer horizon
For owners and advisers, the distinction between signing and opening remains important. A management agreement places the proposed hotel within a brand’s development plans, while construction, operating readiness and the final guest offer still have to be delivered.
The partners have not supplied an exact opening date, room rates or an investment total. The 2031 target is forward-looking, and the planned facilities may evolve before the resort welcomes guests. Commercial teams should keep that qualification visible when discussing the project with potential partners.
