Francis Desjardins has been promoted to regional vice president, Pacific Northwest and general manager of Fairmont Pacific Rim, bringing an international Fairmont career to a combined regional and property leadership role in Vancouver.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced the promotion after his most recent assignment as general manager of Fairmont Taghazout Bay in Morocco. The announcement credits him with more than 27 years of leadership experience across North America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It does not specify an effective date.

Francis Desjardins takes a dual leadership role

The appointment combines responsibility for Fairmont Pacific Rim with a broader Pacific Northwest brief. Fairmont said Desjardins would lead the Vancouver hotel and support the region’s continued growth, drawing on experience in hotel openings, rebranding and repositioning across its portfolio.

The company also highlighted his work developing teams and building relationships with hotel owners. Those responsibilities sit alongside the operational demands of a general manager position, giving the appointment both a hotel-level focus and a regional dimension.

Fairmont has not named the individual hotels included in the regional remit or announced a separate programme of changes at Pacific Rim. The promotion should therefore be read as a leadership announcement rather than a commitment to specific new developments or investment.

A career across Fairmont markets

Desjardins moves from Fairmont Taghazout Bay, where the company says he played a key part in the resort’s launch and subsequent positioning. Fairmont credits his tenure with record financial performance, although it did not publish figures or a comparison period in the announcement.

His earlier assignments show a progression from rooms management into wider hotel operations. A Fairmont announcement published by Hospitality Net in 2012 named him director of operations at the then upcoming Fairmont Baku in Azerbaijan. He moved into that position from director of rooms at Fairmont Singapore.

Fairmont subsequently identified him as director of operations at Fairmont The Palm in Dubai in a company post. These assignments place the new Pacific Northwest role within a career spanning established urban hotels, resort operations and opening projects, rather than a move from outside the brand.

The Fairmont Pacific Rim setting

Fairmont Pacific Rim is a 367-room and suite hotel in central Vancouver. Its accommodation includes Fairmont Gold, with city, harbour and mountain views among the property’s principal features.

The hotel combines rooms with restaurants, cocktail bars, a spa, rooftop pool and fitness facilities. Its public positioning also emphasises art, music and fashion, including rotating in-house exhibitions. That mix gives its general manager responsibility for a broader guest experience than accommodation alone.

The move takes Desjardins from a Moroccan coastal resort to a Canadian urban luxury hotel while retaining the Fairmont operating environment. His international background is the principal rationale the company gives for the appointment.

Continuity through an internal promotion

For Fairmont, the promotion extends the responsibilities of a leader already familiar with its standards, teams and owner relationships. The combination of a regional title and a property general manager role also keeps that wider remit connected to the daily running of a hotel.

The announcement provides no detailed timetable for the transition or successor arrangements at Taghazout Bay. Those points remain to be confirmed. Its immediate significance is the transfer of an experienced internal operator into a senior Pacific Northwest position.
