Hard Rock Casino Tejon starts $725m-plus hotel expansion
A 406-room hotel, meetings facilities, pools and spa will broaden the California casino into a resort, with summer 2028 the anticipated opening window.

The Tejon Indian Tribe and Hard Rock International have started a more than $725 million expansion at Hard Rock Casino Tejon in California, with a 406-room hotel scheduled to anchor the property’s next phase.
Announced on 21 October 2026 in Hard Rock’s groundbreaking statement, the development is targeting summer 2028. It will introduce overnight accommodation and a broader resort offer at the Mettler site, south of Bakersfield.
Hard Rock Casino Tejon adds a hotel and resort facilities
The planned accommodation includes 119 suites. The wider programme comprises:
- 900 extra slot machines, bringing the total to 3,000.
- Council Oak Steaks & Seafood, two additional Marketplace outlets and a Center Bar.
- Convention and event space, three smaller meeting rooms and an outdoor event lawn.
- Two pools and a Rock Spa with 13 treatment rooms.
Hard Rock expects more than 1,500 construction jobs and 350 additional permanent roles. These are forecasts for development and operations, rather than positions already filled.
A second phase with a longer history
The current work builds on a development programme that predates the casino’s opening. The Tejon Indian Tribe’s December 2023 announcement described a two-stage project, with a hotel, pool, spa and entertainment facilities following the initial casino phase.
That earlier release placed the project within the tribe’s wider economic-development priorities, alongside healthcare, education and housing. It also identified the development site as tribal land near Mettler. The October milestone therefore represents progress on an established resort ambition, rather than the announcement of an entirely new location.
Project consultant Acorn Environmental recorded the casino’s opening on 13 November 2025. Its account described a 150,000-square-foot gaming floor, restaurants, bars and music memorabilia, and detailed its own work on mitigation measures, agency coordination and approvals.
Acorn also reported assisting with environmental clearance for two roundabouts on State Route 166, which provides access to the facility. That history illustrates how the visitor-facing project sits alongside transport and infrastructure work.
From casino visits to overnight hospitality
For hospitality operators, the important change is the combination of rooms with meetings, dining and leisure facilities. Taken together, those elements can support a different pattern of demand from a casino built mainly around shorter visits. The hotel would give event organisers an on-site accommodation option, while the pools and spa broaden the reasons to remain at the property.
Delivering that offer will require coordination across front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, events and wellness. The commercial question will be how effectively those departments turn an expanded physical estate into a consistent guest experience. Neither occupancy forecasts nor a detailed hotel recruitment timetable were included in the announcement.
Summer 2028 remains an anticipated opening window, not a confirmed launch day. Further construction milestones are expected as the scheme advances.
