Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis has opened with 142 guestrooms, introducing the Hyatt Centric brand to Missouri and giving a historic Washington Avenue building a new hotel identity.

Hyatt announced the opening on 19 October. The property at 1501 Washington Avenue occupies an eleven-storey building dating to 1910 that was constructed as the headquarters of Roberts, Johnson & Rand Shoe Company.

Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis builds on a historic address

The building’s tall columns, decorative façade and Art Nouveau influences connect the hotel to the city’s garment and footwear industries. Inside, the room design combines an industrial character with high ceilings and large windows.

General manager Bill Tirone described the approach as bringing “the city’s history forward rather than treating it as a backdrop”. For a brand built around local exploration, the address gives staff and guests a concrete starting point for that positioning.

The opening announcement does not disclose the investment cost, an occupancy target or a recruitment total. It confirms an operating hotel, but does not by itself establish the property’s commercial performance.

A downtown base for several types of visit

The hotel’s official website places City Museum, Busch Stadium, the Gateway Arch and Forest Park within its wider visitor proposition. It also highlights MetroLink connections and access to the airport.

The accommodation range includes king and twin-queen options, high-floor rooms and accessible configurations. Large windows and city views are central to the room offering, while a 24-hour fitness centre and pet-friendly accommodation broaden the practical facilities available to guests.

This combination allows the hotel to address more than sightseeing demand alone. Its location and facilities provide a basis for leisure stays, business visits and event-related room nights, although Hyatt has not published a forecast split between those segments.

Dining is designed to serve guests and local customers

The property’s dining information sets out several distinct outlets rather than a single hotel restaurant. The Link serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, combining counter service with seated dining and a bar-led setting.

Its New American menu and locally sourced ingredients are intended to connect the restaurant with the surrounding city. A separate lobby bar provides another gathering space, while Provisions supplies snacks and drinks around the clock.

Expedition adds a rooftop pool, bar and food offering, with space for hotel guests and local visitors. It operates seasonally, an important distinction for anyone assessing the hotel’s facilities during an autumn or winter stay. It should not be presented as a year-round rooftop dining operation.

Meetings broaden the commercial role

The hotel’s meetings page lists ten event spaces and describes access to America’s Center Convention Complex. The combined Peters and Rand ballrooms can accommodate up to 250 guests, with smaller rooms available for executive meetings and breakout sessions.

Dedicated boardrooms include the Friedman and Washington rooms, each listed for 22 guests, and the Shelby and Link rooms, each for 18. The range gives organisers options for meetings that do not require a large convention-hotel format. On-site catering is also available.

For meeting planners, the mix of ballrooms, boardrooms and a pre-function area permits different event formats within one property. Published capacity figures describe the available venues rather than a guarantee that every layout, date or catering requirement can be accommodated. Those details still need to be agreed with the hotel when an event is planned.

Those facilities create a more varied operating brief for the hotel team. Guestroom service, catering, meeting coordination and public-facing dining have to work together, particularly when leisure guests and business groups use the building at the same time. The relevant measure will be delivery across those functions, not simply the number of venues on a floorplan.

Recent WINC Wire coverage of SENA Anaheim’s planned OCVIBE hotel and The Knox Dallas opening programme shows other approaches to connecting hotels with their neighbourhoods. In St. Louis, the immediate task is to turn an established downtown address into a coherent guest experience under the Hyatt Centric name.
