Hostplus is offering two free webinars ahead of International Women’s Day 2026, designed to help women take practical steps to strengthen their retirement savings. The sessions bring together superannuation experts in a live, interactive format – giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and get tailored guidance.

Both webinars run from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM AEDT. The first is on Tuesday 3 March and the second on Wednesday 4 March.

Registration is open now:

Why this matters

The initiative comes at a time when the gender superannuation gap remains a persistent challenge across the Australian workforce. Women currently retire with around 25% less superannuation than men, with the median balance for those aged 60 to 64 standing at $158,806 for women compared to $211,996 for men.

The drivers are well-documented: women are more likely to take time out of paid work for caring responsibilities, more likely to work part time, and on average earn 22.8% less than men – while also living longer, meaning their savings must stretch further.

The confidence gap is equally stark. Only 24% of female respondents express optimism about their financial preparedness for retirement or confidence they will be able to retire when planned, compared to figures above 40% for men. This makes financial education programmes like Hostplus’s webinars particularly timely.

What’s on offer

The webinars are part of Hostplus’s wider Women and Super initiative, a dedicated hub of resources aimed at improving financial literacy and retirement outcomes for female members. Alongside the live sessions, the hub includes a downloadable fact sheet, educational videos, and the SuperSmart digital advice platform.

Members can also access a retirement projection calculator and an insurance calculator to model different financial scenarios, or book a one-on-one appointment with a financial adviser for more personalised guidance.

Beyond retirement planning, Hostplus members and their families have access to 360Health – a virtual health and wellbeing service operated in partnership with MetLife – at no extra cost. The service covers a range of physical and mental health support, reinforcing Hostplus’s broader commitment to member wellbeing beyond the balance sheet.

The bigger picture

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government began paying superannuation on its Parental Leave Pay Scheme – a policy change advocates have described as long overdue, and one expected to make a meaningful reduction in the gender super gap over time. However, systemic change moves slowly, and financial education in the interim remains one of the most accessible levers available to working women.

For HR professionals and people leaders, encouraging team members to attend sessions like these requires minimal effort but can have a lasting impact on workforce wellbeing and retirement confidence.
