Vincenzo Finizzola has been appointed general manager of The Langham, Venice, with responsibility for preparing the hotel for its planned 2028 opening. Langham Hospitality Group announced the appointment on 4 November 2026, without specifying an effective date.

Vincenzo Finizzola takes on the opening brief

The group’s announcement places team-building at the centre of the role. Finizzola will report to Stefan Soennichsen, regional vice president, operations for Europe.

For a pre-opening general manager, the appointment creates an opportunity to influence the operation before its routines become established. Recruitment, induction and cooperation between departments are part of the wider challenge of turning a hotel concept into a consistent guest experience. Langham has not published a staffing plan or recruitment timetable for the property.

A career rooted in Italian luxury hospitality

Finizzola joins from Cà Sagredo Hotel in Venice, where he was managing director. His career spans more than four decades in Italy and the UK, including over 20 years as general manager of Four Seasons Hotel Milano, according to Langham.

The combination of lengthy property leadership and experience in Venice is relevant to an opening whose identity depends on its location. A new team will need to understand both the brand’s expectations and the place it represents. Experience can inform that work, although the announcement does not set out specific service standards or training initiatives.

A heritage project on Murano

The hotel’s official project page describes a 133-room development, including 30 suites, on Murano. Matteo Thun & Partners is designing the conversion of a historic casino and industrial glassmaking buildings, with restoration of original frescoes forming part of the work.

The architect’s project description identifies a combination of restored and newly built spaces, direct access from the lagoon and a central courtyard garden. Those features give the property a more particular operating setting than a conventional city hotel. Arrival, movement through the buildings and the relationship between public and private spaces will all matter to how the finished hotel feels.

Langham’s February 2023 groundbreaking release also outlined dining, a rooftop bar and a cooking school. These remain elements of the published concept rather than operating facilities.

Building a team against the current timetable

The opening date deserves care. The 2023 groundbreaking announcement envisaged 2026, while the brand’s destination listing has continued to show 2027. The latest appointment release now gives 2028. It provides no explanation for the revised timing, so the new date should be treated as the group’s current plan rather than a guaranteed opening commitment.

For hospitality employers, the appointment illustrates the importance of matching leadership experience to the stage of a project. Finizzola’s immediate brief is preparation: bringing people together around a hotel that is still being created. The next useful milestones will be a clearer opening schedule and details of how the team will be assembled.
