Marriott enters Laos as La Résidence Phou Vao joins The Luxury Collection
La Résidence Phou Vao joins The Luxury Collection in Luang Prabang, marking Marriott’s Laos debut and its 800th property in Asia Pacific excluding China.

Marriott International has entered Laos with La Résidence Phou Vao, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Luang Prabang, bringing an established hilltop retreat into its global hotel network.
The launch also takes Marriott to 800 properties in Asia Pacific excluding China, according to Manila Republic’s opening coverage published on 4 November 2026. It is an operating milestone for the group following the conversion agreement announced earlier this year.
Heritage property joins The Luxury Collection
Marriott’s current property listing confirms 36 suites at the resort, which sits within three acres of tropical gardens around two kilometres from Luang Prabang’s old town. The city’s cultural setting provides the foundation for the hotel’s positioning, combining Lao craftsmanship with French influences.
La Brasserie de La Résidence serves French brasserie cuisine, while the Mekong Spa draws on local wellness traditions. An infinity pool and fitness facilities complete the resort’s core leisure offer.
Experiences rooted in Luang Prabang
The opening programme also includes cultural experiences such as a Baci blessing ceremony and excursions to the surrounding region, according to the launch report. The emphasis is on connecting a small resort to its destination rather than creating a large, self-contained complex.
From signing to operating hotel
Marriott announced its agreement with KS Hotels in March 2026. That deal covered both La Résidence Phou Vao in Laos and La Résidence Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia, with the latter originally scheduled to join The Luxury Collection in October 2027.
WINC Wire reported the two-property conversion agreement in April. The latest development is the Laos property’s arrival in the operating portfolio, rather than another signing announcement.
For owners and operators, the opening illustrates how a conversion can establish a hotel group in a new country while retaining an existing property’s identity. The next regional milestone to watch is delivery of the separately announced Cambodia conversion.
