Marriott International has appointed Satya Anand as Group President, U.S., Canada and Caribbean & Latin America (CALA), effective 28 March 2026. The appointment marks a significant strategic realignment for the world’s largest hotel company, unifying the Americas under a single leadership structure for the first time.

Anand brings 37 years of experience with Marriott International to this expanded role. He will succeed Liam Brown, who is retiring after nearly four decades with the company, and will also assume oversight of CALA following Brian King’s departure. Both executives will step down at the end of March and retire in June 2026.

The Indian-born executive began his Marriott career in 1988 as a night auditor at the Vienna Marriott Hotel, progressing through the organisation to hold leadership positions spanning operations, finance and design. His career trajectory included serving as cluster general manager for Renaissance Hotels in Vienna, area vice president for Western and Central Europe, chief financial officer for Europe and chief operating officer for Luxury and Southern Europe and Global Design EMEA.

Since 2020, Anand has served as President of EMEA, where he oversaw Marriott’s portfolio across 75 countries and territories. Under his leadership, the region achieved record expansion, growing to more than 1,300 properties. He drove digital transformation initiatives, advanced sustainability programmes and strengthened owner relationships whilst elevating guest experiences across diverse markets.

His academic background combines financial and hospitality credentials. Anand holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from MES College of Commerce in Bangalore and a diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management from the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management in Austria. This dual foundation has underpinned his ability to bridge financial discipline with operational excellence throughout his career.

Anand’s industry standing extends beyond his Marriott responsibilities. In 2021, he served as President of the Hospitality Awards, the prestigious ceremony organised by Hospitality ON that honours innovation and excellence in the global hospitality sector. The event, placed under the patronage of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, recognised him as a forward-thinking leader capable of guiding the industry through challenging periods.

The unified Americas structure places Anand at the helm of Marriott’s most significant regional portfolio. The U.S. and Canada account for approximately 82 per cent of the company’s net sales, whilst CALA has experienced substantial growth, reaching more than 500 properties across 37 countries and territories. The combined region represents the core of Marriott’s global operations.

Marriott International operates more than 9,700 properties worldwide, comprising approximately 1.75 million rooms across more than 30 brands in 143 countries and territories. The company’s development pipeline reached a record of nearly 3,900 properties with over 596,000 rooms at the end of the third quarter of 2025. Its Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme has grown to nearly 260 million members globally.

Anthony Capuano, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marriott International, praised the appointment in a statement, noting that Anand combines operational depth, financial discipline and design expertise. The unified regional structure, Capuano explained, will sharpen execution and elevate outcomes for associates, guests and owners.

Anand will relocate to the United States and be based at Marriott’s global headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. He will serve on Marriott’s executive leadership team and report directly to Capuano. Federico Greppi, appointed President of CALA, will report to Anand.

The appointment forms part of a broader leadership transition at Marriott. Neal Jones, currently chief operating officer for Europe and Africa and global leader of Design Hotels, will assume the role of President, EMEA, succeeding Anand in overseeing the company’s operations across nearly 80 countries and territories.
