Swire Hotels has announced the appointment of Hoss Vetry as Managing Director, succeeding Dean Winter, who retires after 20 years at the helm of the group. Vetry brings more than three decades of international luxury hotel experience to the role, stepping into leadership at a pivotal moment as Swire Hotels embarks on a significant phase of brand expansion and global growth.
Vetry’s career spans three decades and three regions – North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East – and is anchored by 25 years at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. During that tenure, he held a range of senior roles including hotel general manager, cluster general manager and multi-property vice president. He served as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai and took on leadership positions in industry bodies, including vice chairman of the East China Marriott Business Council, executive chairman of the Sanya Tourism Association and board member of the Qatar Tourism Association.
In 2020, Vetry joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts as Regional Vice President and Managing Director of Rosewood Hong Kong, overseeing the ultra-luxury property alongside three other hotels in the region – Rosewood Beijing, Rosewood Sanya and New World Millennium Hong Kong. He was subsequently promoted to Vice President of Operations for Asia-Pacific, a regional leadership role covering properties across Greater China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and the Philippines. A graduate of Arizona State University, he has been recognised with the Asia-Pacific Continent Guardian Award for his leadership contribution to the industry.
Swire Hotels operates under two distinct brands: Upper House, a collection of individually conceived luxury properties, and EAST, a lifestyle-oriented business hotel brand. Upper House properties include Upper House Hong Kong, Upper House Chengdu and Upper House Shanghai – all three of which received recognition in the inaugural global Michelin Keys selection, with Upper House Hong Kong awarded Two Keys. Upper House Hong Kong has also ranked in the top five of the World’s 50 Best Hotels for two consecutive years. EAST Hotels operate in Hong Kong, Beijing and Miami.
The group is entering what it has described as a bold phase of international growth. In October 2025, Swire Hotels unified its existing House Collective properties under the single Upper House brand, positioning the name as the cornerstone of its global expansion strategy. A pipeline of new Upper House openings is in development across Shenzhen (2027), Tokyo (2027, in partnership with Tokyu Group and L Catterton Real Estate), Xi’an (2028) and Bangkok, where Upper House Residences are planned for 2030. The Shenzhen opening will represent Swire Hotels’ first new property in nine years and its debut in one of the fastest-growing cities in the Greater Bay Area.
Dean Winter, who shaped the group’s identity and brand philosophy across two decades, was instrumental in positioning Swire Hotels as a leader in design-led luxury hospitality – building teams, establishing values and launching properties that have earned global recognition. His successor inherits a group with a clear strategic direction and a growing international footprint. Vetry’s depth of experience across multi-property operations, his track record in two of the world’s most demanding luxury hotel markets and his fluency across Asia-Pacific make him well-positioned to lead the group through its next chapter.
