GreenTree Hospitality Group has announced the opening of GreenTree Hotel Johor Bahru, its first GreenTree hotel in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

The 206-room property is in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru. It has been developed and is owned by Malpakat Group, with Holiday Villa Hotels & Resorts appointed as GreenTree’s Malaysian licensee, according to the company’s opening announcement.

GreenTree Hotel Johor Bahru facilities

The hotel’s Canopy Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 500 guests for banquets or 700 in a theatre layout, according to its official meetings specification. The company also lists five meeting rooms and a boardroom.

Its facilities include an infinity pool, a business lounge and Bough Café on Level 7. The accommodation comprises rooms and suites, with family and business configurations included in the hotel’s published room range.

The property is positioned for both corporate and leisure stays, with access to Johor Bahru’s commercial and industrial districts and the Johor-Singapore Causeway via the Eastern Dispersal Link.

A Malaysian base for GreenTree

The opening builds on the partnership between Holiday Villa and GreenTree Inns Hotel Management Group established in 2022. Holiday Villa’s company profile describes the relationship as a joint venture supporting expansion across multiple markets.

Alex Xu, chairman of GreenTree Hospitality Group, said the company’s franchise model combines guest service, local management, intelligent systems, cost control and a broad reservation network. The Johor Bahru opening gives that model a first operating location in Southeast Asia, with the local development and licensing partners supporting its entry into Malaysia.

GreenTree identified Kuala Lumpur as its next destination in the opening announcement, without giving a timetable for that next step.
