Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt marks Taj debut in continental Europe
IHCL has opened Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, a 126-key hotel near the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre and the Taj brand’s first address in continental Europe.

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has opened Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, a 126-key hotel near the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre that gives the Taj brand its first address in continental Europe.
The opening brings India’s best-known luxury hotel brand into one of Europe’s busiest business and trade-fair cities. It also adds a significant European address to IHCL’s international portfolio.
A Frankfurt landmark under the Taj flag
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt occupies the former Hessischer Hof, one of the city’s best-known grand hotels, close to the Messe Frankfurt exhibition grounds. The building is owned by Peakside Capital and has been extensively renovated for its new role as a Taj hotel.
The hotel’s offer blends European heritage with Indian hospitality:
- 126 rooms and suites
- Bombay Brasserie, serving Indian cuisine
- Jimmy’s Bar, with cocktails and live piano
- A Lobby Bar for teas, coffees and pastries
- J Wellness Circle, Taj’s Ayurveda-inspired wellness concept, plus a fitness centre
- Three daylit meeting spaces and The Chambers, IHCL’s members-only business club
Leadership perspective
Gaurav Pokhariyal, Chief Operating Officer – Full-Service Business at IHCL, said the opening marks “an important milestone in IHCL’s growth journey”.
Spiridon Sarantopoulos, Senior Vice President, Operations Europe & USA, said the property’s heritage combined with Taj’s international stature gives the hotel the foundation for its next chapter. The aim is to deliver an authentic Taj experience without losing the individuality of the former grand hotel.
General Manager Albert Mayr leads Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt. He described the reopening as the reintroduction of a living legacy.
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt and IHCL’s global growth
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt is more than a new flag on a European building. IHCL is using an established hospitality landmark to introduce its flagship brand to continental Europe, rather than starting from a new build.
The Frankfurt debut adds to a portfolio of more than 630 hotels, including around 255 in development, across four continents and 15 countries.
What it means for hospitality talent
Taking Taj’s service culture into a German grand hotel is as much a people project as a real estate one. The brand built its reputation on a distinctive style of service known inside the company as “Tajness”. Exporting it means recruiting a largely European team and training it in Taj standards, while keeping the local character guests expect from a Frankfurt institution.
How IHCL handles that balance in Frankfurt will be closely watched. It is a likely template for further growth in Europe.
