Fairmont to make Greece debut with 104-key resort in Crete
Fairmont will debut in Greece with the 104-key Fairmont Chania Resort in Crete, opening in 2029 with 40 suites, six dining venues and a beach club.

Fairmont Chania Resort will open in 2029 on Crete’s northwest coast, marking the luxury brand’s first property in Greece and strengthening Accor’s presence in the Mediterranean.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is set to enter Greece with the opening of Fairmont Chania Resort, a new luxury beachfront property scheduled to debut in 2029.
The 104-key resort is being developed by Accor in partnership with Hersonissos Group Hotels and will be located in Chania on the northwest coast of Crete.
The property will comprise 64 rooms and 40 suites, with accommodation designed to reflect the character and heritage of Crete.
Its beachfront location will provide direct access to a wide sandy beach, complemented by a dedicated beach club with shaded lounging areas and beachside service.
Design rooted in Chania
The resort’s architecture will be led by Luciano Mazza, drawing inspiration from Chania’s Venetian heritage and maritime history.
Interior designer Inge Moore is responsible for the private and public spaces, while landscape designer Phil Jaffa is overseeing the gardens and outdoor areas.
The design approach reflects a wider trend in luxury hospitality towards making local architecture and culture a more visible part of the guest experience rather than creating a standardised international resort product.
For Fairmont, that sense of place will be particularly important as the brand enters Greece for the first time.
Six dining concepts and 900 sq m of wellness
Food and beverage will form a major part of the resort offer.
Fairmont Chania Resort will include five dining concepts alongside a speciality restaurant, bringing the total to six food and beverage venues.
The property will also feature a 900 sq m wellness centre with six treatment rooms, as well as a swimming pool and separate clubs for children and teenagers.
An on-site chapel is planned for private ceremonies, positioning the property to target the destination wedding and celebration market as well as traditional luxury leisure demand.
Fairmont expands across the Mediterranean
The signing forms part of a broader period of expansion for Fairmont.
The brand currently operates close to 100 hotels globally and had 97 hotels and 35,957 rooms as of June 2026, according to Accor.
Fairmont has also been building its presence across Europe and the Mediterranean, with properties including Fairmont Monte Carlo, Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol and Fairmont Taghazout Bay.
Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, described the Chania signing as a landmark moment for the brand and said Greece represents a strategic addition to Fairmont’s global portfolio.
For Accor, the development also strengthens its luxury presence in a Greek hospitality market where international brands continue to increase their exposure.
Xavier Grange, Global Chief Development Officer, Accor Luxury Brands Europe-North Africa, said the project reflects Accor’s confidence in Greece and its ambitions across the Mediterranean.
For Hersonissos Group Hotels, the partnership brings one of the world’s established luxury hotel brands into its home market.
The result will be a relatively intimate Fairmont by resort standards, with just 104 keys, but a substantial focus on dining, wellness, beachfront experiences and destination-led design.
When it opens in 2029, Fairmont Chania Resort will not simply add another luxury resort to Crete. It will mark Fairmont’s first step into Greece and provide another indication of how aggressively global luxury hotel groups are targeting established Mediterranean leisure destinations.
