Laurent Herschbach takes helm at Métropole Monte-Carlo
Laurent Herschbach has become general manager of Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, bringing nearly three decades of Ritz Paris experience to the Monaco property.

Laurent Herschbach has taken over as general manager of Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, with the appointment effective from 1 October 2026. He brings nearly 30 years of experience at the Ritz Paris to the Monaco hotel.
According to the hotel’s official appointment announcement, Herschbach succeeds Klaus Kabelitz, who served as interim general manager during the peak season before returning to London.
Laurent Herschbach’s remit
The hotel has set out a brief that combines strengthening its international reputation with supporting its teams and preserving the character of the property. Laurent Herschbach will lead that work as the Métropole continues to develop its position in luxury hospitality.
Its announcement identifies service, innovation and the hotel’s distinctive Monegasque identity as central to his responsibilities. The remit brings together day-to-day operational leadership and the longer-term task of maintaining the qualities that distinguish the hotel.
A career built at the Ritz Paris
Herschbach joined the Ritz Paris in 1997, beginning at the front desk. His subsequent roles covered duty management and front-of-house services before he became rooms division director.
He went on to serve as director of food and beverage, director of operations and hotel director, ultimately becoming general manager. That progression gave him experience across the main operational departments of a luxury hotel, from guest arrivals and accommodation to restaurants and overall management.
Laurent Herschbach graduated from the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg. He also undertook hotel-management studies at Cornell University and further training in finance at HEC Paris, according to the appointment release.
About Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo
The hotel opened in 1886 in Monaco’s Carré d’Or, close to the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Its official history records a redesign by Jacques Garcia in 2004, with art, interiors and gastronomy remaining central to the property’s identity.
Its restaurants include the two-Michelin-starred Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac and the Japanese restaurant Yoshi, designed by Didier Gomez. The Odyssey pool setting was created by Karl Lagerfeld.
The property has also invested in its accommodation and wellbeing offer. The hotel’s history dates the introduction of 45 redesigned rooms and suites by Jacques Garcia to 2025. Spa Métropole by Guerlain opened in July of the same year, with interiors by Samy Itani.
Leading the next stage
Laurent Herschbach arrives following both the interim leadership period and these recent changes to the guest experience. The hotel’s stated priorities place continuity alongside development: supporting staff, encouraging innovation and retaining its established identity.
