Anantara Retreat Rabat is planned as Minor Hotels’ first Moroccan property, with 38 keys and an anticipated opening in early 2030.

The group announced the signing on 12 October 2026, naming Abu Dhabi developer Bloom Holding as its partner.

Anantara Retreat Rabat: the planned hotel

The retreat will sit in Rabat’s diplomatic area, around 20 minutes from the centre. Its rooms and suites will be complemented by seven three-bedroom villas, with a design combining Moroccan architectural traditions and contemporary elements.

Plans include a signature restaurant, Moroccan tea lounge, swimming pool, meeting rooms, Anantara Spa and fitness facilities. The intended guests include diplomats, business travellers and luxury holidaymakers.

What the partners said

William E. Heinecke, Chairman and Founder of parent company Minor International, described Rabat as “a particularly compelling setting for our first hotel in the country”.

Bloom Holding chief executive Carlos Wakim said the agreement supported the developer’s international expansion and its approach to working with global hospitality operators.

Rabat’s cultural setting

UNESCO’s World Heritage listing provides useful context for the destination. Inscribed in 2012, the recognised property brings together Rabat’s historic urban fabric and the new town developed during the French Protectorate, from 1912 into the 1930s.

Its heritage encompasses the Hassan Mosque, Almohad walls and gateways, gardens and modern administrative and residential districts. UNESCO’s account emphasises how earlier local architecture influenced the planning and design of the modern capital.

Rabat is also UNESCO World Book Capital for 2026. The designation recognises its literary development and efforts to widen access to reading. The programme was scheduled to begin on 23 April 2026, with initiatives supporting literacy and the local publishing industry.

A wider Anantara development programme

The Rabat agreement follows other Anantara projects with a 2030 target. In July, Minor Hotels announced Anantara Retreat Çeşme in Türkiye, a development of 54 rooms, suites and private-pool villas alongside 50 branded residences. That project is being developed with Arikan Proje Geliştirme in the village of Çakabey.

In the UAE, the group also signed Anantara Siniya Island Resort with Sobha Al Siniya FZC, the joint venture between Sobha Realty and Umm Al Quwain Properties. The announced scheme combines a 125-key hotel with 125 branded residences, also scheduled for 2030.

These commitments place the Rabat signing within a broader pipeline of luxury hotels and residential developments. They represent different destinations and property formats, rather than a single rollout model.

Timing and next steps

For Anantara Retreat Rabat, early 2030 remains an anticipated opening window. No exact opening date, investment value or recruitment timetable was provided.
