Capella Hotel Group has appointed Feisal Jaffer as Chief Development Officer, marking a significant senior leadership move as the Singapore-based hospitality group accelerates the next phase of growth across its Capella Hotels and Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts brands.

In his new role, Jaffer will lead the Group’s global development strategy and help shape hospitality-focused real estate platforms, bringing together portfolio expansion, owner partnerships, capital relationships and investment-led growth. His appointment comes as Capella Hotel Group looks to double its portfolio by 2030, with new openings planned across several key luxury and lifestyle markets.

Jaffer joins the Group at a moment of heightened momentum. Capella Hotels and Resorts has been named Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotel Brand for three consecutive years, strengthening its position within the upper tier of global luxury hospitality. Patina Hotels & Resorts, meanwhile, is building on the opening of Patina Osaka in Japan and preparing to enter China with Patina Tianjin. Capella Nanjing is anticipated to open by the end of the year, followed by properties in Riyadh and Florence.

The appointment also marks a return to the Capella ecosystem for Jaffer. From 2014 to 2019, he served as Senior Vice President, Acquisitions and Development at Pontiac Land Group, during which time he worked closely with Capella Hotel Group on several projects that have since become central to the Group’s identity and growth story.

During that period, Jaffer led the Fari Islands development in the Maldives, which ultimately gave rise to Patina Maldives, one of the defining openings for the Patina brand. He also drove the Sydney Sandstones bid and subsequent development that became Capella Sydney, now ranked among The World’s 50 Best Hotels. In addition, he was part of the founding team that conceived and launched Patina Hotels & Resorts, giving him a direct role in shaping one of Capella Hotel Group’s most important brand extensions.

Most recently, Jaffer served as Global Head of LXR Hotels & Resorts at Hilton Worldwide. In that role, he led the strategic growth of the brand, scaling it from a single property to more than 40 hotels operating and in the pipeline across five continents. He also represented Hilton’s luxury brands, including Waldorf Astoria, Conrad and LXR, across the Americas.

Earlier in his career, Jaffer held senior investment and development roles at Host Hotels & Resorts, in a joint venture with GIC Real Estate, and at Fairmont-Raffles Hotels International. Across nearly three decades in hospitality investment, development and luxury brand growth, he has structured and closed more than US$2.5 billion in transactions.

His academic background combines business, technology and communication. Jaffer holds an MBA from INSEAD and undergraduate degrees in Rhetoric and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Roland Fasel, President of Capella Hotel Group, said the appointment strengthens the Group’s leadership capability as it builds the team required for its next stage of growth. He noted that Jaffer brings deep relationships across institutional and private capital, a strong commercial perspective and a genuine understanding of the Group’s brands.

According to Fasel, Jaffer will drive Capella Hotel Group’s global development strategy by expanding the portfolio in key markets, building long-term partnerships with owners and creating enduring value across the business. He added that with Capella’s reputation stronger than ever and Patina gaining considerable momentum, the Group is well positioned for its next phase.

Evan Kwee, Vice Chairman of Capella Hotel Group, said Jaffer had been central to some of the Group’s most significant projects, including Fari Islands, Capella Sydney and the creation of the Patina brand. Kwee said he had come to trust Jaffer’s judgement across the full breadth of the business, from shaping brands and designing guest experiences to structuring investments and closing complex international transactions.

Kwee described Jaffer as someone who thinks like an entrepreneur while operating with the discipline of an investor, adding that his passion for luxury, lifestyle and design is evident. As Capella Hotel Group enters its next phase of growth, Kwee said there was no one better placed to lead the development agenda.

Commenting on his appointment, Jaffer described Capella and Patina as rare, industry-defining brands with genuine soul. He said his years working alongside Evan and the Kwee family had shaped his understanding of what luxury hospitality could be, and that returning at a pivotal moment for the Group was a privilege.

Jaffer added that he looks forward to helping advance the Group’s global development under Fasel’s leadership while contributing to the family’s wider investment and real estate interests. He said he is excited to help build the next generation of Capella and Patina destinations around the world.

The appointment reflects Capella Hotel Group’s intention to deepen its development capabilities at a time when luxury hospitality is increasingly shaped by selective growth, owner alignment, brand clarity and the ability to translate real estate opportunities into distinctive guest experiences.

For Jaffer, the move is both a homecoming and an expanded global mandate. Having contributed to several of the Group’s most formative projects, he now returns with broader international brand leadership experience and a remit to help scale Capella and Patina across the next chapter of their growth.
