The Hoxton Hamburg will open in summer 2027 as the lifestyle brand’s second hotel in Germany. The 188-room property sits in a 1950s building on Alter Wall, beside the canal in the city’s Nikolaiviertel, and follows The Hoxton’s openings in Berlin and Vienna as its third in the German-speaking region.

The hotel is being developed by Ennismore, the Accor-backed lifestyle company behind The Hoxton, with partner The Chocolate on the Pillow Group, Hotels magazine reported on 1 October. The announcement comes as the brand marks its 20th year.

Inside The Hoxton Hamburg

Rooms are spread across ten floors in six categories, including the brand’s familiar Cosy, Roomy and Biggy options, with 32 interconnecting rooms on floors one to eight. Swedish studio Stylt Trampoli has designed the interiors, drawing on Alter Wall and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Food and drink will play a central role. A Mediterranean-inspired restaurant on the ground floor will seat 130, with 40 more seats on a canal-side terrace, while a 120-seat seafood restaurant on the tenth floor will have a terrace looking out to the Elbphilharmonie and Hamburg’s Town Hall, according to Tageskarte. An all-day lobby bar and The Apartment, an events space with three meeting rooms, a pantry kitchen and private dining for up to 20 guests, complete the offer.

Michael Lutz has been appointed General Manager of the hotel.

What Ennismore and its partner said

“We’re incredibly excited to bring The Hoxton to Hamburg, a city known for its maritime character, thriving creative scene and vibrant cultural landscape,” said Cédric Gobilliard, Chief Operating Officer, Ennismore Europe.

Erik Florvaag, CEO and Managing Partner of The Chocolate on the Pillow Group, said: “With The Hoxton, we’re bringing one of Europe’s most exciting lifestyle brands to Hamburg, a particularly attractive market for the hospitality industry in Germany.”

A long-planned project on Alter Wall

The Hoxton’s move to Alter Wall was first announced in December 2021 as part of Art-Invest Real Estate’s mixed-use redevelopment of the former Sofitel site at Alter Wall 40, with an opening then planned for 2026. The location puts the hotel within walking distance of the Binnenalster, the Town Hall and the Speicherstadt.

Hamburg adds to Ennismore’s growing lifestyle portfolio across Europe and beyond. For more on the group, see our report on Sylvain Pasdeloup’s appointment as Chief Operating Officer, APAC, and on Accor’s plans in India with InterGlobe.
