What the partners said
“These projects reflect our shared confidence in the long-term growth of Malaysia’s hospitality sector and our commitment to working with trusted owners to bring the right brands and experiences to destinations with strong growth potential,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International.
Datuk Lee Yeow Seng, Group CEO of IOI Properties Group, said the signing of the four hotels “cements our position as a significant hospitality owner”, taking the total to 15 hotels owned by the group that are, or will be, managed by Marriott International. In a post on LinkedIn, IOIPG said the new hotels would complement its integrated townships and developments and create socio-economic value for communities, guests and stakeholders.
Marriott’s Gautam Bhandari, Chief Development Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, and Andree Susilo, Vice President, Hotel Development, attended the signing alongside IOIPG Head of Hotels Alan Yau Chuen Tao.
Townships and a 2032 room target
Each of the four hotels is tied to an IOIPG development, from IOI Resort City in Putrajaya to Kota Warisan in Sepang and IOI @Plentong in Johor. The group aims to expand its hospitality footprint across Malaysia, Singapore and China to 4,648 hotel rooms by 2032, according to The Star and The Edge.
The first three hotels are scheduled to open in 2030, with The Ritz-Carlton, Putrajaya following in 2032. For more on hotel development across the region, see Design Hotels’ 14 new Asia Pacific signings and Marriott’s three-hotel agreement with CP Group in New Zealand.
